2014 Silverado AC Problems Already?
Okay, fast forward a few days. Flushed the system, and the evaporator coil had a bunch of black stuff in it. I guess that's what was referred to as the "black death" of these units. For anyone else that's doing this, here's what I've learned. Aftermarket compressors are not available, the one you buy from the dealership (around $400) does have the requisite amount of PAG already in it (1.4 oz). Getting the old compressor off is a beast, here's a tip... the bolt that goes all the way through the mount? Loosen it about a half inch, then drive it back in. This will push the bushing in the back of the compressor out of the hole in the rear mount. You can then swivel the compressor down to be able to get at the hose flange for removal. Sort of. You'll see what I mean. The reason I make the point about the oil? All the information out there about how to pre-load a compressor with oil doesn't apply to this compressor. It has a drain plug. Even the tech at my local dealership didn't know this. The service advisor finally found a picture on his PC. No wonder so many recurring failures, if the techs don't even know! I'm using PAG46, and loading in about five ounces via vacuum. Evidently, the compressor has oil in a reservoir behind the pistons from the system. I'll continue to post as the saga continues... meanwhile, I have my eye on a Nissan Titan when I get done with this. 100K warranty.
Turned on my a/c right after Christmas and it was blowing hot air. Finally had time to take it to the dealership this past week with 46000 miles. Got the oil changed and and asked them to get a diagnosis on the a/c. Service advisor came back and said I had a cracked line going to the compressor and wanted $425 for repairs. Conveniently they had parts in stock. I told them I was not fixing today and he charged $100 for putting it up on the rack. Checking out I asked the advisor what causes a line to break and he said vibration. Really? I call BS on that one. After reading all the issues on this site it this should be a GM recall for faulty lines and compressors.
I'll say it again, I really like my 2014 Silverado. It's a solid work truck that drives like a luxury vehicle, but if GM doesn't address this and continues to ignore it with the hope that it will go away, I (and it sounds like a few others on this forum) will not buy from them again. While this may mean nothing to such a large company, maybe they'll do the right thing - which will only help their reputation.
No one is right 100 percent of the time. It's how we deal with our failures that determines our character.
I emailed GM directly, and sent them a link to these 12 pages asking them to address this engineering flaw. Their first reply was suspiciously formatted like a robo-letter (you know, the kind congressmen send out in reply to a constituent's concern), but I'll post their next reply to this forum so we can all be know how they're addressing this.
"We had read your response and we understand that you wanted Chevrolet to properly do remedies about the HVAC system issue of your 2014 Chevrolet Silverado. We are extending that you have to pay out of pocket for the correction of the said concern. We would like to inform you that we will review thoroughly the inputs that you’ve provided us to raise it properly with Chevrolet."
I have the same truck, but mine is just out of the 36,000 mile warranty and the dealership says it's not covered under warranty anymore. It's a 2014 truck going into spring and summer... This is a bit ridiculous... Not everyone has the extra money to pay in full for repairs on a virtually new truck.

Quote: Kyle, you really need to contact GM directly. You're so close to the warranty line, I can't believe that they wouldn't extend the warranty.

hey,
We actually discovered we bought MPP Platinum Coverage up to 75,000 miles. The truck was diagnosed as a bad compressor and also needs a new belt for it. Apparently MPP doesn't cover belts and hoses? Anybody heard of that? At least the compressor is covered!!!
Thanks,
Kyle

I was on the phone with GM corporate about my 2014 chevy silverado A/C compressor. That It's been blowing hot air. The dealership claims theres rocks in the compressor. After reading these forums I realize that this is problem for many and should be fix for free. The dealership is trying to charge me $1000.00 for a $250.00 part and also $1300.00 for maintenance on a $44,000 2yrs. old truck THE TRUCK OF THE YEAR
Dimmitt Chevrolet Clearwater FL.
Dimmitt Chevrolet Clearwater FL.
So my truck is less than 2 years old with 54000 (highway) miles on it. I have the 6.2 engine with all bells and whistles and even more problems. When I first bought the truck and went to pick it up, I was told it wasn't ready due to a faulty remote receiver so they put me in a rental. Within the first week I noticed my heated steering wheel, heated mirror and heated seat did not work. Dealer took it in for 10 days and put me in a rental... they rr placed the steering wheel, some modules bla bla bla...The truck always vibrated at around 50 Mph and up... they took it in for diagnosing 3 times at a couple of days each and they couldn't figure it out. Finally they decided it was a bad batch of tires and they replaced the tires free of charge and the vibration went away. Now I'm way out of warranty in an 18 month old 50K truck. My heated seat stopped working again and my AC is blowing warm air... while the dealer did right by me, I think Chevy needs to look at their quality a little closer and do right by it customers. I think it might be time to look at ram.
