Default Backup / Reverse Lights don't work...

I have a 2003 S-10 Extended Cab 4-cyl Automatic.
The reverse lights have quit working. All other lights seem to be working okay.
Does anyone know where the switch is that needs to be replaced?
Is it on the steering column or is it attached to the transmission?

Thanks in advance for any help.

JIM

Welcome to the forum. The backup lamp switch is part of the park/neutral position (PNP) switch mounted on the transmission. Have you checked the fuses underhood? There should be one 25A main fuse upstream of the switch and then one 15A fuse upstream of the backup lamps.

So can I assume the switch is good? If the switch was bad, then the vehicle would think the transmission was not in park and I wouldn't be able to start it, correct?

No, you cannot assume that. The PNP switch circuit and backup lamp circuit are electrically separate.

Default Back-up lights not working

Working on S10 2000 back up lights. New switch and receptacle, both working and getting juice. Fuse is fine.
Where could the problem be?

Did you ever fix your back-up light problem? If so , what did it turn out to be?
Thanks, Larry

Hello check all the bulbs the sockets all wires and grounds. Check for power might not be the switch after all. I had good bulbs loose contact those little wires needed to be pulled back till it pinched better , the same happened with sockets the fix . Battery disconnected . Had to use a pick to pull the contacts into near touching each other installed bulb no more problems

Thanks for the reply, but this thread is ten years old, and that S-10 is long gone. I hope your reply will help someone else out with the same problem.
