Default 2005 Suburban Z71 Dome Lights

New User: Greetings. I have a 2005 Suburban Z71 ( bought it new ). Several weeks ago the dome lights ( 2 map lights in front seats, middle row dome light, 3rd row dome light ) just stopped working. The map lights in the front and 2nd row work when I press the individual power button. When I open the front door or use the internal dome light wheel switch the courtesy lights on the bottom of the 2 front door work but again, no dome light or map lights. I checked all the fuses with no results. I know its not the bulbs because the map lights still come on and I power tested the other bulbs. any suggestions?

Welcome to the forum
Does the door chime sound when you leave the keys in the ignition with the door open? if not its the door open switch that is your problem...on the 2007 and up its built into the door latch, I am uncertain on the 05 but its probably the same, I'd need to check my service manual to be sure....

Yes, when the doors are open with the key in the ignition the chimes sound.

There are 2 circuits supplying power to the dome lights, one for the manual switches & one for the automatic 'door open' power. They both come through the BCM, re-check the fuses feeding the BCM, or try a reboot of the BCM (disconnect the battery). It could also be a bad connection at the BCM connector. The door lights are separately controlled by the Driver/Passenger Door Modules.

What does BCM stand for? Can you advise there the fuses are located? I would like to thank you in advance.

BCM = Body Control Module, the computer that controls the various powered features of today's cars. Check any fuse labeled TBC-xxx, there are some in the under-the-hood panel, and some in the Instrument Panel fuse block. Sorry I couldn't be more help with the fuse location.

It was a fuse. It took about 1 minute to fix. That has been bugging me for weeks. Thank you very much for the advice.

Which fuse was the trouble-maker?

It was a TBC 15 am fuse located in the driver side door fuse panel. Not one that I would have thought to check.
