Help with p0449 & p0455 codes
Mike AAA Was the procedure you found similar to the one I posted above or was it different? The one I had said to relocate a bit higher and shield it near the fuel filler inlet...but as you did above the transmission will probably work also...
I found the actual "Chevy Tech" procedure sheet and it suggested to put the vent up over the transmission housing facing downward so no dust would enter the sustem via gravity. I really found it major helpful! As I said, I'm a chimp but found this to be one of the easiest fixes I've done, short of changing a tire! Plus as one of the posters put it, "practicing taking the spare down in your garage or driveway is way safer than having to do it on the roadside" - valuable peice of info there for sure! I also failed to mention that use a short (maybe 2") section of the 5/8" heater hose to join the factory "hard" or "shiney" black hose with 2 hose clamps - you'll never get that hard plastic to slip over the new selenoid. Good luck - easy fix makes me look like a hero to the bride saving all that money plus just made me feel good doing it myself.
Just thought I would tell you that I corrected the PO455 code. As I explained in my previous message, the mechanic changed the vent purge valve near the tank and another gas cap. Error still came up after a bout 1/2 hour of driving. Thanks to this site, I bought a canister purge valve that sits aon top of the engine held by one bolt. Cost $40 at the dealer and took 5 min. to put on, code is fixed ! Now I just have to find a spare tire winch / bracket to replace the rusted one that is on there, wont crank the cable in.
I have read all the messages on this forum related to the P449 code. My wife's 05 Yukon XL is doing the same thing. I found the information informative and useful. I purchased the vent solenoid from Amazon of all places for 13.00. I put it on last night. So far, no service engine light. Thank you so much for the information. I guess it's time to try and tackle the service ride control light now....
Hey family man,
I haven't had any error/check engine lights, but have had problems filling my 04 Suburban forever. It will click off every couple gallons then I have to pull, re-seat and start again, over and over... After reading and researching online I purchased a new vent valve from the dealer ($29.86) and installed today. Pretty easy install following directions posted on the forum which took 15-20 min. Checked the hoses while installing and they looked good, no visible cracks.
All this to say I drove to the gas station when finished and it still clicks off every couple gallons. Really frustrated. Anyone have any suggestions??

First, thanks to everyone here for an education on the EVAP system. I have an 07 Avalanche and I was able to locate everything and set up my list of things to go through prior to buying parts or enlisting the diagnostic help from the GM dealer. Before I started, I called to see if parts were available (of course they were, the parts guy knew the issue when I read him the part number- he certainly has seen this before).
I had the P0455 code. It was NOT the gas cap. However, I was lucky in that the fuel filler neck clamp was loose.
Once I tightened the clamp (for good measure I gave all of them a bit of a snug up), I turned the key and 5 seconds later the MIL went out. Took it for an inspection, which was a 20 minute ride, and everything passed.
So good advice on checking first, and for good measure, I checked the spare tire and greased it while I was underneath.

Can someone help out please! My 2000 chevy Suburban Service engine light came on I got the codes p0453,p0446,p0452... I was driving my truck and it was bogging out when i returned to my house I opened my gas cap and Air started to rush out of it ( sounded like a punctured tire) the next day my truck would not stay running or hold any type of Idle, when I also tried to give it gas to see if that worked the truck would Die out instantly. A few days have passed and the Truck now will hold an Idle but when I give it gas I will not pass 3000rpm The Rpms will drop and the truck gives off a backfire! Im not sure if I should change the fule tank pressure censor, The evap purge vent or if its a fuel pump Issue! Any Ideas or help?
