Help with p0449 & p0455 codes
I replaced this part due to a P0449 code, although Chevy had relocated it considerably further than shown here on my 2005 Tahoe LT 5.3. At any rate, the engine light is still on.....do I have to go get the code cleared or will it eventually clear on its own with some driving time if this were indeed the fix? Hoping I don't have to replace the solonoid or something else.
HFDFF,
IT IS NOT THE GAS CAP!!! You will replace gas caps until your hair turns gray. I was receiving the P0449 code on my 2005 Chevy Tahoe LS, replaced two gas caps and still had the code. If you have replaced it once, P0449 come means there is issue with the EVAP canister vent valve located near the EVAP canister and the fuel tank. Do not get this confused with the EVAP purge valve located on the intake manifold. I ATTACHED INSTRUCTIONS that covers Tahoes/Yukons/Escalades/Silveradoes/1500s from the mid 2000s and a PICTURE of the actual EVAP canister vent valve that I replaced!!! This fixed my problem and it only costs $32.00 for the part FROM THE DEALER and 10 minutes!!!ffice

P0449 is an indicator that you have a slow leak in your EVAP system or the solenoid on the EVAP canister vent valve is not receiving the proper voltage. Yes, the gas cap can be the possible reason you have a small leak in your EVAP system, but if it continues after it is replaced, it’s the EVAP canister vent valve. I read a post where someone claimed that the dealer actually dropped the tank to replace it. That’s bull!! There is plenty of room to access this part. Please let me know if this helped.<O

I agree GREAT POST!! My wife's 2009 Suburban threw these codes about 5000 miles after warranty ran out. Had local Advance Auto reset once but they keep coming back. Will replace EVAP Canister this week and see if that does it.
GREAT info in this post!!!!
GREAT info in this post!!!!
BE CAREFUL WITH THE VENT VALVE!!!!! you need to push in while twisting it counterclockwise to remove it. and then to put the new one in you need to push in on the new valve pretty hard and twist it clockwise. I broke two of these a couple days ago.
One side note: After purchasing the solenoid from the dealer I found out that the $110.00 TRUCK solenoid can be replaced by a cavelier or cobalt solenoid because they cross over or something. The CAR solenoid sells for around $40.00. I didn't check into this fully so...you may want to if you can save some coin. Pictures in link: Picasa Web Albums - brandon crawford - Truck
This is exactly what I need. Same part number, heater hose, etc. I appreciate your write up! One follow up to your comment about the use of the Cobalt or Cavalier solenoid. They are two different shapes that aren't an exact fit. They may be funtionally interchangeable, but it would take some fitting. The price is considerably different. Dealer price in Houston is $150 for the truck solenoid, and the Cobalt is about $40. GMpartsdirect.com has the truck solenoid for $78 bucks. Good stuff! Thanks!

PS I offered the exact same info to the dealer, Parsons' of Eagle River
