I wonder if those that are getting them replaced "free" are going to their dealership regularly or for routine maintenance...
It would be my guess if you are giving regular business to the dealership they'd be more inclined to repair it for the "customer appreciation" factor....
Just a thought.....
I got my 5th oil change for free at my dealership... of course I pay a premium having them do it with synthetic oil, but it does build a rapport...I have never had to go to them for anything else yet...

I have been to mine for some other warranty work - only thing I have paid for is to replace the transmission fluid and fix the stuck 3rd row seat.
but I was quoted $200 not free...

It's been over 2 weeks now and still no reply from Chevy Rep here online or a call from GM themselves. Since then, I took my truck to another local dealer to even see if they will entertain my dash replacement. No luck there either. I'll give GM a call now and see what they can do for me.

Anyone trying to get this fixed, my only advice is to have patience and on top of it. Could be worst, imagine the whole dashboard cracking into pieces while your airbag deploys. Or your airbag deploys and snags on the crack and never really deploy. Anything can happen.
Good luck everyone.

Rich,
I am in the same boat as you. I went to my dealer and they said $200 (not too bad honestly) but I messaged Jeff on this site with GM CS and got the same call yesterday. I should get an update today or tomorrow on how much they will cover. Worst case I pay the $200 and move on.
it seems that they know of the real issue and considering the shear amount of these vehicles there has to be a lot of cracked dashes...

After doing quite a bit of research on this topic, I came across this forum and more specifically this thread in regards to the faulty dashes in 2007-2010 GM trucks/sport utilities. I don't have too much to add to this thread, other than a small bit of hope on the horizon. There is very large firm out of Dallas, TX that is currently weighing its options in possibly representing the now 1,000's of individuals that have been affected by this design flaw. A class action suit could be filed as early as Spring of 2011, in hopes that GM would admit to the well documented flaw and set up a TSB and relief for the many people that own the damaged vehicles in question.
Nothing is set in stone, but I'm making this post in hopes that when the time comes, that those who have been affected, will take time to forward on any info they are willing to share. You will see similar posts show up in the following weeks on GM enthusiast sites all over the web.

well after dealing with GM CS the same $200 offer to replace my dash from my local dealer still applies. I have 56000 miles so I can't complain too much, I will drop it off tonight and update when I get it back.
I will try to have them fix the peeling steering wheel pieces also

Can you get a picture of the old and new dash underneath side in the area of the crack? Interested to see if there was any design change to correct the problem.

My 07 LTZ Tahoe dash is cracked as well by the passenger airbag. I went to the dealership to get the normal recall stuff (wiper motor, chrome interior door handles flaking, etc.) taken care of. They wouldn't replace the dash. I called the 800-222-1020 number and got a case number. They told me they would contact the dealership and call me tomorrow. I have low expectations, but we'll see.
