Default AC evaporator

Hello I have a question about the removal directions and diagrams for the removal of the evaporator in a 2001 4cyl tracker. (SKY) I know you probably can help! Thanks in advance.

thank you sky this forum is the best! It’s keeping my tracker alive! That’s exactly what I needed,FYI my AC works great,it’s just that the weep hole doesn’t work and never has since I bought the vehicle. I have blown out and probed the drain, but it still run down the firewall onto the floorboard.for years I have just pulled the passenger carpet and the rubber drain plug and let it go . My truck it works but now I think I’m going to address the issue! And as usual I came to the right place thanks again!

Please post an article on the carpet removal .

I've been cleaning mine but need to go underneath it for deeper cleaning .

What temperature do you get out the dash vents ? .

My 2000 Tracker never exceeds 50* F, I'd expect lower from any GM product .

Default More questions

Well I didn’t see anything helpful in the diagram on the drain , and that’s a lot of work! But just in case if it’s not to much to ask for the section on the instrument panel carrier removal under gauges and console? I’m going to climb under the vehicle and study it more, but I remember the previous owner said that he had just paid for a AC repair and I think that the gasket is messed up on the evaporator! Causing the leak on floorboard.

Mitch ;

Can you please detail how to get the black hard plastic buttons holding the leading edge of the carpet to the firewall ? . I have the passenger seat out of my 2000 Tracker and discovered ancient coffee/soda/cigarette spills, I've taken the consold out & aprt, for cleaning but the carpet is still firmly attached at it's front edge .

Also, you say 'AC works great' and mine never gets lower than 50* F at the center dash vents, I'd like to know if this is normal before I touch it .

TIA,

Again, I am not an HVAC tech but I would like to offer some basic troubleshooting advice.

This is the illustrated parts breakdown (IPB) for my Tracker's A/C evaporator coil. Note callout 17 and the nipple it goes over. Callout 2 is the condensate pan the water drains into.

You can see the bottom of the condensate pan under the glove box.

Zoom in where the condensate pan (callout 2) touches the firewall. That foam seal is callout 17.

The nipple on the condensate pan protrudes through the firewall to the engine bay. If short rubber hose (pictured above) is not installed on the nipple, water could drip inside the car instead of draining to the engine bay. Is that hose present?

SKY ;

You're wonderful ! I keep saving your terrific images .

No way I can afford the shop manuals .

In my 2000 year model Tracker the foam gasket #16 has disintegrated as old foam tends to do, this means any water on the firewall, like when I washed the engine, leaks down inside the toe board .

Why I need to kow how to release the two hard plastic buttons holding the carpet up .

Nate,
I keep getting emails saying you have posted a new response to this thread. I see an unread response by you listed but when I open the thread there is no message. This has happened several times. I tried to contact the Chevy forum admin but those messages would not go through either. I am posting this message only to flag it -- hopefully it will get the admin's attention.

Thats perfect the detail i was looking for! I see that it's a foam seal so not a gasket issue. however, my drain nipple is hard plastic through the firewall, so I'm confused! well, it's not a luxury vehicle by any means! I guess I should be grateful that the AC works great and never has given me problems. There are bigger problems else ware I could be dealing with! THANKFULY NOT ON THE TRACKER!!! i think there may be a issue with my outlook account causing problems you mentioned.
