Help with p0449 & p0455 codes
We had the same issue with our 07 Tahoe with less than 36K on the clock. GM has lost a long standing customer for good----------- we paid the $150 and then had the same problem within a month and I ended up fixing it myself, a real no-brainer. As far as an answer to your question yes the parts are available even from the dealer. A point of interest is that I find it hard to believe that you need a new canister so soon. It can be as simple as the hose from the valve to the canister popped off as ours did after a GM TECH fixed it for $150. Ripped off by GM.
Hello everybody. What a great site this is. I've been researching the P0449 code that is current on my 09 Silverado. Now the dealership has quoted me $151 for the solenoid and $200 for the canister valve. My question is, is there a website or somewhere else I can get these parts and where can I get the part numbers. Your help is appreciated. Thx, Chris.
Well I went to advanced auto parts yesterday and bought the service manual and had them read the code again. Same code P0449. That code is specific to the EVAP canister vent solenoid circuit (per the service manual). I read all 13 pages on this thread and decided I was going to replace that solenoid and the dealership quoted me $151. I found it on Amazon.com for $60 with free shipping. Today the light went out. I think I'm gonna let it ride until the light comes back on. Could it be the weather. It has recently gotten hot here in FL.
You may still have to replace the vent valve if it has become contaminated but here is a possible cause to the failure(s)

The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI.
Condition/Concern:
Some owners may comment that the SES is illuminated and when checking for DTCs the ECM will
have set an Evap DTC. While performing normal diagnostics it may be noticed there is excessive
moisture/water/corrosion at the vent valve solenoid, vent valve pipes, and/or EVAP canister. The
vent valve solenoid draws fresh air from near the top of the fuel filler pipe. In some situations, it is
possible that water spray from the rear wheels may be drawn in though the vent valve pipe at the
top of the fuel filler pipe.
Recommendation/Instructions:
GM engineering is aware of this concern and working on a GM service kit to correct this concern. In

Hi, I have a 2006 Suburban 1500 and am getting the gas cap loose light. then after a few more times of that, the engine light goes on. I checked the code and it is PO455.I had it to a shop and they did a smoke test, replaced vent solinoid, and yes my 6th cap !! drove away and 4 days later same thing. Took it back and they said I had a small "dimple " on the edge of the filler pipe, so put on a different cap that was tighter. 3 days later engine light is on. I have about 98000 on my truck and wonder if I need to replace the canister ?? or the solinoid on the engine. Any thoughts ?
My 05 tahoe has been having the engine light come on constantly saying it is the gas cap. I took it in and they put the smoke machine on it and it started smoking from the Vapor canister, he showed me and it was alot of smoke. He also said that I need to replace the Fuel Tank Evaporator Control as well as the vapor canister. Should I replace both? if so is this something I should do? the price he gave me was $352.
Yes replace both. I did an exhausting search and found the official chevy tech's procedure sheet. It took me (an idiot) about 20 minutes and that includes taking the spare tire out of the way. Tools needed; screwdriver, utility knife. Pick up some 5/8" heater hose - about 8' to reroute the vent to over the top of the transmission and a few zip ties to secure it along the way. It's a quick easy fix you can do yourself and save hundreds.
